To date, 16 natural reactors have been located. At least ten tonnes of uranium have been consumed in the process and generated a range of waste products.

Oklo is a very old uranium deposit which formed in a sedimentary basin almost 2,000 thousand million years ago. One of the natural reactors has been left for future study and impressions of the reactor zones can be seen.
